The Goffin’s Parrot is also known as the Goffin’s Cockatoo or Tanimbar Corella. It is native to the Tanimbar islands in the Indonesian Archipelago. It has also been introduced to Puerto Rico and Singapore.

It is the smallest of the white cockatoos standing 30 centimetres (12 inches) high and weighing 200 to 300 grams (7 – 10 oz). Like all members of the Cacaturdae family it is crested which means it can raise and lower the feathers on its head.

Goffin’s Parrots reach maturity at 2 – 3 years. They nest in hollow trees. They eat a wide variety of seeds and nuts.

Fun Facts

Due to large numbers of birds being captured for the pet trade and destruction of habitat by logging this species may be extinct in the wild. One bird in captivity reached an age of 26 years. It is thought they may be able to live for 40 years as pets or in the wild.
