The Nilgai, also known as the Blue Bull is the largest antelope in Asia. It is endemic to India, Nepal and Pakistan. The species exhibits sexual dimorphism. Males can weigh up to 288 kg (635 lbs) and stand 1 – 1.5 m (3.3 – 5 ft) at the shoulder. Females weigh up to 213 kg (470 lb). Only the males carry smooth, straight horns.
The sexes differ in colour. Males are bluish grey while females and young animals are orange to tawny.
They are herbivores, eating mainly grasses and Herbs. Nilgai prefer areas of short bushes and scattered trees or grasslands. They travel in three distinct groupings; one or two females with calves, three to six adult and yearling females with calves, or two to eighteen males.
